The Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS) Team is dedicated to providing effective support for ethnic minority pupils who are learning English as an additional language.
We work closely with these pupils, their families, and class teachers and other school staff to ensure that they become proficient in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English, so that they can fully access the wider curriculum. Our primary focus is on helping these pupils overcome any barriers to their learning and become functionally self-sufficient in English.
Supporting your students to succeed in their education
Our borough is home to a diverse range of linguistic backgrounds, including British minority ethnic groups and new arrivals from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
In order to effectively support these bilingual learners and ensure that their English language needs do not impede their academic progress, we focus on building the expertise of your staff. We also recognise the importance of providing appropriate support to families in order to best serve the individual needs of each pupil. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that all students have the necessary resources and support to succeed in their education.
