Primary School Support

Working with schools to develop early intervention strategies for the most challenging pupils

The School Support Team works with schools to develop early intervention strategies for pupils to prevent exclusion and develop inclusive practice.

The team can provide advice and guidance to key staff and for schools that purchase the service level agreement, the team may work directly with students and their families. The team also facilitate and oversee supported student moves between local schools where appropriate and where families and schools concerned are in agreement as to the benefits.

We can provide

  • Telephone support, advice and guidance for general inclusion queries.
  • Telephone support to discuss individual cases and plan appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Liaison with other professionals where appropriate to support children and families.
  • Meetings in school with key staff to develop action plans.
  • Attendance at in school meetings with children and families where appropriate.
  • Liaison with Primary Outreach where appropriate.
  • Advice around the exclusion process.
  • Facilitate Supported Student Moves where appropriate.

Interaction with the team gives schools an opportunity to discuss plans for individual children where they may be experiencing challenging behaviour relating to social, emotional and mental health and seek advice around possible intervention strategies and avenues for further support. In a minority of cases a move of school may be appropriate and where agreement can be reached by all parties the School Support Team will facilitate this through the supported student moves process, allowing a ‘fresh start’ for the child and family involved.
