Sadly, becoming the victim of a cyber-attack is now commonplace for schools or businesses.

Cyber-crime is increasing and while we all have a role to play in preventing these incidents it is easy to feel overwhelmed as the scams and tactics become more sophisticated and we all rely more heavily on technology. The training provided by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) includes a range of resources to help raise awareness of the current risks; training to increase staff skills and advice to help identify and respond to potential threats. We are all aware of good password hygiene, but this material aims to develop our awareness and daily practice further.

Alongside training for staff, the NCSC hosts national events for pupils to highlight the significance of this sector. Such as the CyberFirst Girls Competition, which is open to year 8 students. The competition's material supports the national curriculum for computing while also fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The competition is now accepting registrations [register here].

North East schools also have the opportunity to gain accreditation through the CyberFirst Schools initiative. The programme intends to reward schools for including high-quality cyber security instruction in their curricula. Along with accreditation, schools would profit from possibilities to collaborate with organisations and Universities to support students who are interested in pursuing a prospective career in this field.

The aim of Education North Tyneside is to work with your whole team, from your technical managers to curriculum leads, your governors, parents, and students.  We want to support you to assess your current cyber resilience and develop a bespoke plan using a range of available materials to highlight the importance of the issues and build confidence when face with potential incidents.  Contact a member of our team to discuss your current needs and concerns.  Let us help you build your cyber resilience.
